- Summary
- Focuses on Family Well Being (FWB) programs and Indigenous Men's Support Groups at Yarrabah in Northern Queensland. These programs have incorporated a process whereby the community has set research agendas, local researchers have been employed, and unversity researchers have facilitated the development of appropriate programs, the capacity of the community to manage these, and program evaluation. The paper describes an example of best practice in research collaboration between research institutions and Aboriginal community health workers and advocates, and both recommends positive strategies for successful partnerships and considers the challenges to creating effective research collaborations including the need to overcome community and individual reticence to participate
