Summary
"The YALP Pilot Project was launched in 2005 at three sites: Aurukun (Western Cape College - Aurukun Campus), Halls Creek (Halls Creek District Primary and High School) and Shepparton (Mooroopna Primary School, Gowrie Street Primary School, Wanganui Park Secondary College and Shepparton High School). In 2006, the Project expanded to two additional sites: Alice Springs (Yipirinya School) and Adelaide (South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA formally SAISTA)) (post compulsory). In 2007, the final year of the Pilot Project, an additional school was included: Kaurna Plains School in Adelaide. The thrust of this Report is to show what has been learnt from the pilot phase of the Project. Taking the Nichol's and Berliner's (Nichols & Berliner, 2007) approach the assessment focuses on the objective 'for learning' rather than 'of learning'. According to the authors, assessment for learning is formative in nature, is context dependent, authentic, flexible and linked to day-to-day learning. In other words, the report focuses on lessons learnt from the Pilot Project rather than just looking at what the students have achieved, bearing in mind that educational projects require longer periods of intervention in order to show significant change in students' achievements (Friedman, 2005)."[taken from executive summary]
