Summary
"Maternal smoking during pregnancy is the most important preventable cause of adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes, including low birth weight and infant mortality. Despite falling smoking prevalence, smoking in pregnancy among some disadvantaged groups remains a significant health problem, with smoking during pregnancy being three times more common among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women than non-Indigenous Australian women (52% compared to 16%)."--Taken from Background page 3
