Summary
In several remote communities of outback Australia the recurring echoes of ancient Indigenous stories are being made accessible through a new type of art. The artists featured in this film are consciously seeking an expression that builds bridges between traditional Indigenous spirituality - the Dreaming - and the Christian religion of the invaders, called 'Two-ways'. The occurrence of this syncretism is often accompanied by controversy because it offends purists on both sides who see it as bastardising their pure religious form. Features interviews with Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr, Tjumpo Tjapanangka and Hector Djondalu about their spirituality. Indigenious art is described as being a conceptual map of the person's country, story - Dreaming. Other speakers include: Sister Rosemary Crumlin, Curator of Religious Art, High Court; Djon Mundine, Aboriginal Art Curator, Darwin Museum; Sister Claire Ahern
