Intended audience
The individual recordings in the collection are very uneven in value. They were recorded at the Mission during the visits of a great variety of tribesmen and were never studied. Only one item has been published, the one reproduced here, by Carl Stumpf in his Anfange der Musik (Leipzig, 1911), 122, Ex. 8. Stumpf believed the clapping of the singers to be an accompaniment by drums and rattles. H-d; FT-12KC; ET -3; moderate sur-face noise; very muffled quality; fade-out covers extreme speeding up of recording at end. [Rhythmic accompaniment may be beating together of boomerangs or sticks Both are common in this area.] -- supplementary booklet, page 28
