Summary
"The rapid economic development of Queensland in the 19th and early 20th centuries could not have occurred without the use of Aboriginal child labour. From as young as two years of age, Aboriginal children were forced to work as circus performers and domestic servants and in the pastoral and other industries. Many were also employed in the pearling and beche-de-mer industries off the coast of Queensland, a trade renowned for its harshness and isolation." -- back cover
