Summary
"Nyikina people are the Yimardoowarra people, the people of the Lower Fitzroy River, in the remote West Kimberley region of Western Australia. For thousands of years Nyikina people have lived in this region and their culture is still vibrant today in their stories, ceremonies, songs and dances. For over 20 years Nyikina people have tried to establish sustainable economic initiatives on country which would enable them to remain on their traditional lands and take care of their country and sacred places as they have been doing for thousands of years. But the threat of the massive industrialisation of the Kimberley is looming. The Western Australian government is wanting to industrialise the whole of the region with new coal, uranium, copper and other precious metal mines, and a Gas Hub on the pristine coastline."
