Summary
Personnel; N.B. Tindale, C.J. Hackett, A. Brumbie. This film shot between May and June 1933, at Piltardi, South Australia shows incidents from the daily life of Pitjantjatjara Aborigines in the Mann Ranges of South Australia. One hundred and twenty Aborigines are shown moving across the Mann Range towards sandhills near the Tomkinson Range. A man burns a design on wooden hair pin. The repairing of a broken spear is demonstrated. A man sitting, heats spinifex gum over the fire; smooths the ends of the broken spear shaft with a stone scraper attached to the end of a spear thrower. Gum is stored in the spear thrower handle. Kangaroo sinews are chewed and used as binding. More gum is heated and applied over the splice. Children arrive at the camp and obtain meat from the men. The bones are broken with a stone to obtain the marrow. The children then play using the branches of a tree as a swing. A group of women collect water from a rockhole and carry it to the camp in a coolamon. Mulga grass is placed in the coolamon to prevent it splashing over the edge. A child is shown drinking the water. Men collect firewood and return to the camp. Sleeping places are prepared behind a windbreak of Acacia kempeanea branches. The group then gather around the warmth of the fires as the night draws in
