Film footage from a visit to the Haasts Bluff region of Central Australia by E.O Stocker. Stocker was the camera operator for many of the films produced by the Board for Anthropological research and Directed by Andrew Abbie. This footage is part of the unedited rushes from (DAC0000227_0001) Haast's Bluff 1956. The film depicts many elements of technology and hunting skills of the Pintubi people from the area. Reel One of the film contains the following sequences: man drawing animal tracks in the sand, and demonstrating sign language for animals; a man instructs a group of boys to climb a tree to get branches from the top of the tree which they chew on to extract the sap, the man finds a grub on one of the branches and eats it; a group of men paint up using yellow and white ochre, they then sing while sitting in a long line; a man flakes stone tools using a steel axe head in a stone quarry; a man crafts a woomera, finishing it by rubbing red ochre on the wood; two men demonstrate spear throwing using a woomera, a group of men decorate small boards with designs; a man lights a fire by rubbing a woomera on a groove in a shield and allowing spinifex grass to catch light from the friction; a group of men with camels loading supplies; digging for grubs and honey ants with a long boomerang and a stick; using a hammerstone to shape flakes of stones in a stone quarry; boomerang throwing demonstration. Reel two of the film contains the following sequences: chopping wood from a tree and making a woomera; decorating boards and swinging bullroarer; fire lighting; close-up of witchitee grubs, 3 men demonstrate sign language; 4 men build a shelter with branches and spinifex grass; shots of a mission or station under construction with Aboriginal people working on the site laying bricks and mixing cement; white medical staff examining Aboriginal children and shots of flora and fauna; woomera and boomerang making; close-ups of animal tracks being drawn in the sand; location shots of Haasts Bluff
