Summary
Previously owned by European settlers, the Robinson River cattle station in the Northern Territory was the home of the Garawa people. Don Rory a Garawa man tells of the time that the Garawa people fled to the hills and cliffs, believing that they would be safe but many were massacred. Don calls to the spirits of his people in the cliffs in Garawa language and explains that is the only language they understand. The cliffs and caves are decorated by rock art, tools and some of their remains. Survivors were put to work as stockmen and station hands where they were given food and tobacco but not money. Johnson Charlie talks about a land claim that was made by Garawa people in 1980 for self-determination of the cattle station and it has been self run since then. The young stockmen are shown riding at the Borroloola rodeo
