Summary
"Australian society boasts a wide variety of culture that influence and enrich our visual arts. In recent years Indigenous art has soared to prominence as a particular influence - instantly recognisable to many as uniquely Australian. As appreciation of Indigenous artworks has increased, so too has the influence they extend over a multitude of other contemporary artists. More and more non-Indigenous artists are incorporating Aboriginal imagery, styles, media and colour into their art. Where does appreciation and appropriation begin, especially when some images have a deep spiritual significance for Indigenous people? This exhibition explores some of these issues and displays works by prominent Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists as Tim Johnson, Imants Tillers, Ian Fairweather, Elizabeth Durack, Sally Morgan and Lin Onus." - page 3
