Summary
Five years ago, school teachers Colin and Sandra Baker, decided to move to the town of Warrego, situated on the edge of the Tanami desert and run the Warrego primary school. However, the gold mine closed and almost overnight, Warrego became a ghost town. With no students left, the school would have to close. To keep their school going and to save their jobs, Colin and Sandra had to find a way to encourage the children from a remote, Aboriginal community to come to school. After spending six months trying to persuade the elders of the Mungalawurru community, an Aboriginal elder and former stockman, Colin Freddie, offers them an unusual solution ? if Baker would teach the children to ride horses, then he would bring the children to school. Ian Hopwood, the District Principal overseeing eleven schools, is the Bakers' boss. He gives an insight into the reaction of the education department to the Bakers' maverick approach to teaching
