The film explores the work of an Aboriginal group who have become, since 1946, a self-sufficient mining community miningalluvial tin, tantalite and columbite; whole families work at sifting and digging; special work group for boys between 10 and 14 years of age, and only after they have achieved manhood through tribal ceremonies will they be permitted to work at the mine with the men and women again; this community has had to learn many new skills; a teacher and his wife are employed by the people to help the people to read and write; they have learned to drive and maintain cars and trucks by which they take the ore to Port Hedland and return with supplies; they also engage in small-scale agriculture
