Anthony Fitzgerald Ozies; born 24 April 1928; went to school in Wupipi / Broome and Beagle Bay; paternal grandson of Antonio Mungo Ozias (Ozies) from Mindanao, Philippines, and Cecelia Nganagon, a Djugun woman from Broome; son of Phillip Ozies and Dominica (Daisy) Fitzgerald, of Kija and Irish descent; when Anthony was five years old his father, Phillip, died; his mother died in 1941 when he was 11; eldest brother and half brother of Francis Xavier Ozies, Cecelia Maria Doyle, Phillippena Fletcher, Annie May Ozies, Magdalene Daisy Kitaura (deceased 2013), Carim Gerald Drummond (deceased 1983); grew up in Broome with the Puertollano boys; worked with Kevin Puertollano's grandfather, Thomas Puertollano; he experienced the 1935 cyclone; his grandfather had a place at Banana Well, on the Dampier Peninsula near Beagle Bay; his grandfather also had a fish trap and Anthony used to help his grandfather; Anthony went to school in Broome and was taught by the nuns; in 1936 he was taken to Beagle Bay Mission; he was at the Mission during World War II until he found work in Broome from 1943 to 1945; he worked maintaining the boats; he then worked in construction at the airport and got his driver's licence; he worked as a house painter before starting work for Leo Gugeri maintaining luggers; he studied to be a diesel mechanic; after Gugeri closed he worked as an engine driver; he met Mary Helena Rose in Beagle Bay and they married in Broome in 1947; in 1953 he was offered a job by Leo Gugeri on Liveringa Station where he worked for 11 years; in 1963 he was offered a job in Derby as an engine driver; moved to Derby in 1963 for his children's education; worked as an engine driver and diesel mechanic; ended his working life in 1991 as a linesman in a supervisory role for the State Electricity Commission; after retirement Anthony had his own place at Banana Well; father of Gary, David, Daniel, Colin (deceased), Anthony Jr., Roseline Shadforth, Evelyn Daniele, Mary Ozies, Helena Micallef; Anthony Ozies passed away in 2015
