Santiago Durante; also known as Santiago Dorante; pearl diver; Manilaman from Samar or Iloilo in the Philippines; born approximately 1865; ran away from home and was a stowaway; arrived in the Torres Strait Islands when he was 14 years old; married Wasada, a Meriam woman; Santiago Durante and Wasada had seven children Terezito, Napoleon, Evelina, Laura, Antonio, Francis, Camilla; lived on Edgor / Nepean Islet; had to get permission to visit relatives on Keriri / Hammond Island; died 18 March 1948; buried in the cemetery at Edgor / Nepean Islet
