Summary
Cornelius Tolentino; born in the Philippines in 1873; arrived in Australia about 1902; although he had a wife, Cristina, sister, Juanita, and two sons, Pascal and Paul, he was unable to bring his family to Australia; after his wife, Cristina, died, Cornelius married Teresa Santiago from Idarr country (Yawuru); daughter of Amacio (Amasio) Santiago, 'Manilaman' from Capiz, Philippines, and an Aboriginal woman, Mingbal (Minbal), also known as Esther; Cornelius was 54 at the time of their marriage and Teresa was 19; Cornelius and Teresa had five children: Cornelius Jr., Isadore, Augustine, Leoneeda [Juanita], and Mary (later Manolis); the family lived at Fisherman's Bend, Wupipi / Broome; they lived in a house in Walcott Street; Cornelius was a countryman of Thomas Puertollano; during World War II he and his wife and family were evacuated to Beagle Bay Mission and lived there from 1942 to 1944 before returning to Wupipi / Broome; he was a happy man and a good dancer
